This morning started off with a tasty black !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , followed by a motherflippin’ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and now, a BMW I8. This I8 was parked in the same place where I saw the last !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Come to Nebraska, we have cool cars.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Also, can anyone tell me for sure if that 911 is a real-deal 2.7 RS? It certainly looks the part, it has all sorts of badges for various Porsche and classic car clubs, and I really hope it’s the million-dollar collectible and not a reproduction.

I worked in Nebrasksa for about a year and was quite surprised by the amount of high dollar cars. There is a track in Hastings that supercars like to play at and a huge private collection in Lincoln.

Are you referring to Kuck Collection?

Yep, didn’t know the name of it before though. I never got to see it but a few of my coworkers kids got to go.

I got to go for some fundraiser event last year, was invited again this year but couldn’t go. The couple who own it were super nice, Mrs. Kuck saw me jotting down the names of some of the cars (since photography isn’t allowed), and proceeded to show me around the whole place and answer all sorts of questions I had. Her “baby” was a Duesenberg Model SJ Boattail Speedster, and as you can guess by my username I was plenty interested in that car.

These aren’t my pictures but that is the actual car.

When the RS was first brought to America, they were only legal to drive on the track because of the EPA standards at the time. They have since been relaxed to accommodate various vehicles. It is also worth noting a fair percentage of the 2.7 RSs we see here today weren’t actually sold in America.

The easiest way to authenticate them is by looking at the interior. The main reason Porsche was able to get the car down to less than 2,000 lbs was by stripping the interior. They have absolutely no sound insulation. The interior is not carpeted. Instead, there are just rubber mats. They have pull cords instead of door handles. The glove compartment also lacks a lid.

There was a “Touring Package” that gave it an upholstered interior and steel bumpers. These cars still had pull cords and lacked glove box lids. There are at least 500 cars that lack this package for certain.

Judging by the rear bumper of the car you posted, it was most likely originally sold in the US. I can’t see the interior in any of the shots, but the rear 3/4 gives a view of where the glove box would be; I don’t see any weird shadows, making me believe the car has a glove box cover, which means this might be a very nice reproduction.

If it is not the real deal, and I strongly believe it’s not, it’s probably a backdate. There is a shop in Vancouver that produces 2.7 RS backdates that are fairly authentic on the outside but have a normal interior, like the 911S the original 2.7 RS would have been built off of.

Based on the fiberglass bumpers (and bumperettes), the fact that it looks like it’s haphazardly parked with the windows down, and the external rear oil filler, I would say that’s a 1972 911E with some tribute parts.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am not a Porsche expert.

But I have spent an irrationally large amount of time online over the last decade looking at auction resultes of classic Porsche’s. And, I’ve had quite a few Gin and Tonics today. After three more I might be Ferry Porsche himself.

I don’t remember if it did or not, but the interior shots I am finding of 2.7 RS models on gooding & Co & google all seem to have door handles and glovebox lids. This one is from a motor trend article:

Just read the article. The car you just describe is actually the much rarer 911 3.0 RSR.

You’re totally right; I was talking about a completely different car. No sleep for 40 hours will do that to you. With that being said, I will retract my previous statement labeling this a reproduction and say it is a nice car.

Damn, didn’t know there was an i8 around.

I saw an i3 a few months ago, but those aren’t as noteworthy as an i8, imo.

Lol it’s all good. Somebody else took a guess that it was a reproduction, it totally could be but I’m not sure. I want it to be real though.

On a different note, do you have authorship on here? I only ask b/c I’ve seen your comments a lot but no posts.

Indeed. And I believe there are more than 1. This guy got it to replace a purple XLR. I only know because of the vanity plate, “IM MR T”

Just the idea that there aren’t a bunch of these left and they are arguably the most desirable Porsche to Porsche people, it probably isn’t real. The owner having a bunch of Porsche badges on the car, making me believe he cares about the brand. The 50 Jahre sticker was given out to attendees of a 50 years Porsche event. I think the round one in the foreground might be a PCA badge from the 70s or 80s. The 2.7 is either from a limited run PCA did in 1975 or is off of eBay. Those PCA badges were made specifically for a VIN count of the 2.7 RSs sold in the US, so the original ones are difficult to get possession of.

No authorship; I just the ability to post comments without them being grey, for now.

Yeah, the round one is from the Great Plains Region (local) of the Porsche Club of America. The guy who I bought my car from was a member I believe.

You drive a D2, yes? It seems like people who own Porsches but don’t DD them usually DD Audis, closely followed by BMWs. There is only one member of our local PCA club that doesn’t DD either of those and she drives a W126.

Sure do. PO was also a member of the Audi Club of America, as evidenced by the sticker that’s still on the car more or less.
